Start Somewhere

Today I ran a mile and ate less of a cupcake than I usually would. But I’m starting somewhere. I think people put off major life projects because they don’t let themselves start small. Sure, some people change their lives at the drop of a dime and don’t look back. If you can do that, kudos to you, but I can’t and I don’t think most people can either. Let yourself start small. I didn’t start writing by putting in two hours a day at 4AM. I started with a paragraph in class. Then another paragraph at work the month …

Getting Back to Healthy Habits

For the last month, I didn’t prioritize my health. I just kinda kicked the can down the road, going out to eat, skipping workouts. This weekend, Fernanda and I found ourselves just feeling bad, and we knew it was because we’d ignored our fitness for too long. It really comes down to making the next decision a good one. Doesn’t matter if you’ve been off for a while. Just stop putting off what you know you need to do. Your body will thank you when you eat right and exercise. My mind—and I think everyone experiences this—will try to convince …

Thank God for Sweet Potato

I’m feeing pretty good about myself. At my campus job, there were two big boxes of luscious Mojo Donuts. And I didn’t have one. Bro, two months ago, I would have taken down at least two or three. No question. I would’ve also regretted it before I was done. The payoff is never as good as your mind says it’s gonna be. Stay on track! Luckily, I could text Fernanda about it and she texted me back saying, “STAY STRONG! STAY FOCUSED!!” So I had the lunch I made for myself: italian-seasoned chicken, rice, and sweet potato. As soon as …

Get Enough Sleep

You shouldn’t be exhausted in the morning. You shouldn’t be yawning by noon. You shouldn’t be running on E by 7pm. You won’t last. I’m learning this the hard way. I’ve gotten up at 4am every day this week to write and production has been great. This is a lifestyle I’m happy with. But it’s the end of the week and I felt the sleep debt. It’s hard to “grind” all day if I’m nodding off in the afternoon. I’m gonna make sure I can sleep at least 6 hours a night. 10pm-4am. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep because …

Count Your Wins

Right in the morning, I weighed myself. I lost 10 lbs in the last month. Macros and Fernanda have helped me get on a healthy track. Geydis calculated my macros for me and I’m never hungry. And Fernanda makes every meal delicious. Follow her blog Vibes For Dinner to see the proof (and the amazing recipes.) My other big win: I scored an interview for a summer internship in Communications. The company I applied to work for invited all the candidates to the office to get to know us, and I killed it. My one-minute pitch was fire and I met …
