Trump Baits CNN; They Fall For It

Trump struck gold yesterday with his tweet body-slamming CNN. https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/881503147168071680 I saw it this morning, laughed, showed Fernanda, and moved on. But the media and Democrats have spent all day crying about how it’s an attack on the press. One commentator even said, “This is what the fascists did in the 30s!” Whoa. Relax. It was funny. And it’s not like Trump’s wrong to say that CNN has it out for him. I’m all for calling him out when he’s wrong, and he gets it wrong all the time. But CNN spends all day manufacturing outrage headlines. They’ve become the …

New Direction For Progress Report

Something about the 3 minute, fast-fire, hyper-partisan video format didn’t speak to me. It’s not who I am. It’s not how I talk or think or interact with people. From now on, Progress Report will be a long-form podcast where we bring on interesting people and let the discussion where it needs to go. Most of us (white people in general) aren’t mean racists. We don’t call black people the N-word or hate people because of their skin color. But most of us choose to be ignorant, and that is just as bad. Most of choose to ignore history and watch reality TV instead. Most of …

Listen to People That Disagree With You

I’ve realized recently that I’m unable to defend lots of the things I consider to be true. I lazily infer the evidence, but am unable to critically present my case. I think a great example of this would be the recent debate between Ted Cruz and Bernie Sanders. Not saying Bernie was lazy, but Cruz hit him with fact after fact for Bernie only to make general moral statements about healthcare. I walked away from that debate less sure about things like universal healthcare. We have to interrogate our beliefs. We can’t just trust information we received long ago without …
