Coetzee’s DISGRACE Astounds

I’ve just finished it.

This thing builds and builds and grows–climaxing multiple times–and leaves you wiser. Not only is the story engrossing–an old sex-addicted professor in South Africa–the writer is phenomenal. A true pleasure to read. I found myself constantly highlighting, phrases and words and feelings I’ve never seen used with such confidence. This book is a shining example for any writer and a blast for the reader.

My favorite thing about this book is its artful description of human sexuality and desire. I’ve never read romance written with such power and honesty.

Super grateful for having found this book. I never would have read it if it not for Manette Ansay, my favorite Creative Writing teacher at UM. Spring break finally gave me the time to read it. This is already having profound effects on my writing and perspective.
